Welcome

Many types of silver containing dressings are available for wounds requiring additional protection from microbes.

PolyMem Silver dressings contain all the benefits of QuadraFoam plus the added antimicrobial benefits of small particle silver.  The silver is contained in the dressing membrane and releases the antimicrobial silver ions in the dressing where it is effective in killing microorganisms that come in contact with the dressing.  PolyMem Silver’s unique, even distribution of silver throughout the dressing helps to ensure a steady and consistent release of silver ions as exudate is absorbed into the dressing.  Since the silver is evenly distributed and remains inside the dressing, there is less potential for damage to healthy cells

Dr. Andrew Burd’s independent study of five silver containing wound dressings found that PolyMem Silver had the highest absorbency and was the least cytotoxic to cells when pre-moistened with sterile water, saline or nutrient broth.2  Ferris Mfg. Corp. also has a number of peer reviewed case studies which demonstrate the effectiveness of PolyMem Silver dressings and standard PolyMem.

PolyMem QuadraFoam and the Benefits of Silver

Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.†

Antimicrobial silver dressings are often the choice for non-healing acute and chronic wounds where protection from microbial contamination is required.3  The many antimicrobial silver containing dressings available to the wound care community can help reduce the risk of infection as well as provide a broad range of antimicrobial activity.3   However, some silver dressings have been shown to stain the skin, cause stinging, and/or damage healing tissues.3   Silver dressings require moisture to activate the silver ions, which provide the antimicrobial effect.1

PolyMem Silver dressings offer healthcare professionals and their patients the opportunity to use the QuadraFoam formulation with the added antimicrobial benefit of small particle silver distributed evenly throughout the dressing membrane.  The silver ions in PolyMem Silver dressings are active without the necessity of being pre-treated with either sterile saline or sterile water.  Additional silver ions are released as the dressings become moist with drainage from the wound.  Tests for antimicrobial effectiveness found PolyMem Silver dressings kill 99.9% of entire populations of tested organisms.*

According to the independent study mentioned above, PolyMem Silver dressings cause the least amount of damage, as compared to the other tested dressings, to the two types of cells (keritonocytes and fibroblast) necessary for healing.2  The same study also found that less silver was released into the wound bed while using PolyMem Silver than with the other silver dressings.2  When using PolyMem Silver, the microbial ‘kill zone’ is in the dressing, helping to reduce potential damage to healthy cells which can occur when silver is released into the wound bed.2

Ferris Mfg Corp is excited to introduce PolyMem Wic Silver Rope wound filler, a tunneling dressing to add to the current PolyMem Silver cavity/undermining and cover dressings.  PolyMem Wic Silver Rope contains all the same benefits as other silver containing QuadraFoam dressings and is reinforced for easy and complete removal from the tunneling wound.

PolyMem dressings are also available without silver in a variety of shapes, sizes, thicknesses and with or without adhesive tape borders
